In today's message we look at Zechariah's vision of the woman in the ephah, who is explicitly called "wickedness." To understand this we survey the city of Babylon, from its founding under Nimrod in Genesis 10, its prophesied demise in Jeremiah 50-51, the capture without a battle in Daniel 5, right through to the eventual ruination described in Revelation 17-18.

Through all this, we see God always has the measure of wickedness. He will deal with all wickedness in the end, even that found in the most powerful nations in the world.

Zechariah’s sixth vision of the flying scroll presents a sobering picture of the urgency of salvation and reminds us that God’s Word is authoritative, timeless, eternal and complete—nothing can be added or taken away. For the believer, there is security in Christ’s finished work; for the unbeliever, an urgent call to repent from sin and seek salvation before judgment comes. Is God’s Word written on your heart, or merely gathering dust on a shelf?

In Zechariah 4 we are looking at the fifth vision which features a lampstand. Unlike the huge Temple menorah which required constant attention to keep it lit, this heavenly menorah is sustained by two olive trees and pipes. In our message today, Ray shows us how this was encouragement to Zerubbabel in his day, and today it points us to Christ, Who is the true light of the world.

Zechariah 3’s powerful 4th vision gives us a picture of God’s grace, the security of the believer, and His unbreakable covenant with Israel. Joshua’s filthy garments are replaced with festal robes, illustrating both the removal of our sin and the imputation of Christ’s righteousness. Israel’s failure has not cancelled God’s promises—His covenant remains intact and His calling irrevocable. Through Joshua and the coming “Branch,” we see the certainty of salvation, Israel’s future restoration, and the day when God’s people will dwell in holiness, peace, and harmony.

The vision in Zechariah 2 reveals a God who never forgets His promises. His unwavering commitment to Jerusalem, together with the hidden linguistic details of His presence in Esther, reveals the meticulous faithfulness of a covenant-keeping God. What He promised to Israel, He will fulfil. And if He is faithful to His promises concerning Israel, we can have complete confidence that His promises of salvation are equally secure. He is the First and the Last, and He will never fail. How are we responding to His faithfulness?
